Construction measures of the TUM
TUM is always changing. Constantly, somewhere is being rebuilt, repaired, renovated and newly built. Since it is easy to lose track of everything, here is a list of all current and planned major construction measures that contribute to the improvement of study conditions. If you have specific questions, it is best to contact the person responsible for the corresponding campus.
Renovation work
Only renovation work or minor construction measures are currently taking place at the Main Campus. As a result, rooms may not be accessible. But: afterwards it will be nicer and safer.
House of Students
In Gabelsbergerstraße a building is currently being renovated. Once completed, the House of Students shall be there, a building, whose rooms will be accessible exclusively for students.
There you will find study rooms, relaxation lounges and a small kitchen.
Neue Garchinger Mitte / Galileo
Right next to the underground station, a 36,500-square-meter congress center with lecture halls, a hotel and restaurants is currently being built. This groundbreaking improvement of campus life is only possible due to strong business partners. You will find more information here.
Energy and Information Center
The construction site for ZEI is located directly in front of the Department of Chemistry. There will be, among others, the MSE, the Chair for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems and the Chair for Nanoelectronics. Completion, after 2 years of construction, is expected in May 2017.
New mensa Garching
The excavation for the new mensa is currently located behind the old one. This is to be completed within the next few years. An inner courtyard for relaxing, a café on the ground floor and the mensa on the first floor are planned.
House of Students / StudiTUM
Some of you may have already noticed the felled trees behind Villa Kunterbunt. There, a house is being built just for us students. It will contain study and seminar rooms, a lounge area, a cafeteria and an AStA office. Groundbreaking was at the end of November 2016.

Car park P7
Parking shortage? Not for long, because a new parking garage with 250 spaces is to be built behind the Physics. Construction has not yet started, but should be soon.
Electrical Engineering and Information Technology Department
Finally, the time has come, the EI is coming to Garching! A completely new department is to be built at the provisional parking lot. With two large lecture halls in the covered courtyard, enough space for all chairs and our own parking lot, it is definitely one of the largest construction projects of the TUM within the next few years. Professors and students will be very happy about it.
TranslaTUM
A new research center will soon be added to the hospital. The focus is on cancer prevention and treatment. It is designed for interdisciplinary projects, being built on the southeast corner of the hospital and should fit perfectly into the already existing cityscape.
New building operation center
The building will have two main areas of use. On the one hand, it will enlarge the hospital with new, very modern operating rooms, including a wake-up area to a total of 16 rooms; on the other hand, there will be the largest part of the Vascular and Endovascular Clinic with a Policlinic and a bed ward. With completion, the access from the north will be architecturally much more appealing and simpler.
